Miri Chase

Early Life

Miri was born in Prosperity 2176.  She grew up in a house her dads rented. When she was 15, her dads saved enough money to buy the house from their landlord.

Miri’s dads encourage her interest in STEM by taking her to annual conferences and science fairs.

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Appearance: Brown hair, bob haircut, green eyes, pale skin

Relationships

Robert Chase – Dad

Anders Chase – Papa

Eris Vandermere – Friend

High School

Miri is a sophomore, though she takes junior level classes. She shares a science class with Eris, who becomes her partner for the final project. Clocking Eris as a jock and accustomed to being bullied, she assumes he’d want her to do the whole project herself, and is surprised when Eris said he wanted to participate in the project.

Miri and Eris choose the topic “Tree Biodiversity’s Effect on Local Squirrel Populations.” However, this topic bores both of them.

When Einari visits the mortal realm of Midir, Miri and Eris decide to switch topics. Miri is hesitant because switching topics means they’ll be forced to take a lower letter grade, but is willing to give the project a shot so long as they “blow Mr. Darren out of the water.”

Eris and Miri begin writing their new paper topic: “The Effect of Divine Presence on Human Behavior.” Their research brings them closer as classmates, and eventually as friends.

Great Flood

Miri and Eris text each other a few times during the onset of the Great Flood. Miri expresses her fears to Eris via text. Later, she boards the fishing boat with her dads. When the boat passes Eris’s home, Miri begs the others to let him aboard. Though some were hesitant, they eventually relented when Eris’s parents sacrificed themselves for Eris and Aria’s safety.

Miri survives alongside Eris. When Anders is shot, she holds a rudimentary funeral for him, and again when Robert dies.

Death

When something rips a hole into the fishing boat, Miri and Eris are forced to tread water. Miri is not at physically fit as Eris is, so she runs out of energy first. Eris rescues her the first couple of times she sinks below the waves. Eventually, she begs Eris to let her drown.

Last Words

“I can’t do this anymore. Let me go, Eris.”
